Srinagar city which has a history of almost 2000 years now looks like a modern city thanks to some wonderful work done by the administration. The smart city project seems to have done Srinagar a world of good as it looks more modern, more organised and more active. The evening life in Lal Chowk now is a sight to behold wherein artists, singers, and dancers display their skills openly much to the applause of the general public around. This was unimaginable a decade back.
The administration has done remarkable work in uplifting the administration of Srinagar city. The smart city project which in its next phase is going to do a lot to improve the cultural tourism aspect of the old city has already done great work in as far as the city side is concerned. Rajbagh now looks like any eastern European boulevard with the riverfront acting as a major crowd puller. Thousands of people use it as a halting point to click photographs and post the same to the thousands of their followers back home. This creates a ripple effect and attracts more tourists.
The streets now look cleaner. The SMC has done a tremendous job in maintaining cleanliness standards on major thoroughfares in Srinagar. The water supply and power supply have improved considerably which in fact has the potential to come for a toss if the snowfall does not occur in the coming few weeks. However, having said that, there is this sense of optimism that things are on course to get better. This optimism is being exuded by one and all in the general public.
The administration must now focus on improving the cultural aspect of Srinagar. The aim should be to attract people to see our culture and the things related to it. Our culture is our main capital. It is the best thing to attract foreign tourists.
Having said that the administration must be congratulated for taking such efforts. Another round of development and we can easily compare Srinagar with any city in Europe.
