The residents of Nowhatta, Makhdoom sahib area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Tuesday expressed anguish against the non-functional drainage system in the area.
Locals of the area alleged that the authorities are not speeding up the process of ensuring improper drainage system from Islamia College to Makhdoom Sahib, which has created immense hardships to them for decades.
The damaged drain has been blocked by household waste, polythene and plastic waste. “During rainfall, the Makhdoom Sahib link road submerges in water, thus causing difficulties to pedestrians as well as travellers,” said Gulzar Ahmad, a local resident.
“The drainage system has been in bad shape for a long time and all the unclean water gets accumulated in the drain for a long time, which produces a foul smell and causes inconvenience while moving around,” said Shabir Ahmad, another local resident.
Meanwhile, locals appeal SMC Commissioner to look into this matter as soon as possible.
