In a surprising development, the ancestral village of Syed Salahuddin, the Pakistan-based self-styled commander of the terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen, has set a new record in voter participation in Soibugh, breaking a 40-year-old trend.
As of 1 pm, more than one-third of the 17.37 lakh electorate had cast their votes in the ongoing polling for the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency.
Election officials provided detailed assembly segment-wise data, revealing that the Langate segment in Kupwara district recorded the highest voter turnout at 40.53 percent. Other segments, including Bandipora, Beerwah, Budgam, Gulmarg, Handwara, Karnah, Kupwara, Lolab, Pattan, Rafiabad, Sonawari, Trehgam, Uri, Baramulla, Gurez, and Wagoor-Kreeri, also saw more than 30 percent turnout. Conversely, Sopore recorded the lowest turnout at 19.44 percent.
Polling in the constituency will conclude at 6 pm. Today’s high turnout is seen as a significant indicator of the UT’s evolving political engagement, surprising many political analysts.
