The progress of a state is gauged by one key indicator – how often does the state recognize the talent of its people and how many people are rewarded for the hard work they put in their respective fields. There are people who do their daily shift, go home to spend quality time with their families but there are others who put in extra time, go beyond the call of duty to ensure that humanity is served in the best possible way. It is very important to recognize the hard work and commitment of those people as well. The government can start by recognizing the talent of government employees who have a proven track record of honest service, who have put in extra man-hours and have given their best despite working in challenging circumstances. Then there must be specific awards for upcoming sports personalities, writers, teachers, poets, those- in the blue-collared workforce, police personnel and businessmen. We cannot afford to lose sight of the fact that these are the gentlemen who help build our nation, and work tirelessly to help our nation progress. In the writing community especially we have seen writers with dozens of books to their name waiting for recognition from the government. Even though the critics and the readers approve of the creativity of the writer, the same is never recognized by the relevant authorities. It is only after the death of a poet and writer that we cognise their creativity, state that their death was a loss to us. This has to change. Recognizing a writer when he is at the peak of his/her creative genius is very important. This can help the writer, poet, actor or a dramatist to bring newer masterpieces to the fore. Also, this recognition inspires the younger generation to take up writing and acting as professions. Recognizing talent and appreciating it at the right time is very important for any society. We must unfailingly commit ourselves to it.
