They are the builders of the nation. They build our future in our schools. They are our private school teachers. Highly qualified and tremendously talented, they have produced results which is better in every aspect and metric in comparison to the results produced by the government schools. However, the tragedy of the whole thing is that these private school teachers are grossly underpaid and over-exploited. For some private schools, you would not find it strange that they make teachers work for as low a salary as Rs.4000 per month. Some are paid even less with no benefits like health insurance and paid leaves. Even though there are schools like some of our top-notch missionary schools who do provide reasonable salaries to the teachers, but a vast majority underpaid its staff. It has also come to our notice that when it comes to the annual hike in salary, a good majority of the teachers are laid off and new teachers are hired. Even though the law lays down that for any organization where more than 20 employees work giving out health insurance cover to every employee is mandatory, however, it is not followed in letter and spirit. While we understand that sometimes schools are not able to collect fee from the students and at times it is a curtailed amount of fee that schools receive, but that does not mean that the private school teachers should be directly impacted by such things. We hope things change and change soon.
