It was one of the most important pictures of the day when Manoj Sinha raised his finger to show the indelible mark signifying he has participated in the biggest festival of democracy in the world. Originally a resident of the country’s most populous state Manoj Sinha has been instrumental in guiding the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir towards all-round development. To the extent that many states are now copying the developmental model of Jammu and Kashmir UT.
The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has seen a record number of tourists from the last three consecutive years. Every year this record gets broken. And these metrics are now independent of the socio-political conditions in the sub-continent. The tourist footfall now just does not stop. Try booking a hotel room in Pahalgam or Gulmarg and you will come to know that every room is pre-booked for the next three months. The hotels are enjoying a hundred percent advance reservation for many extended summer months now – earlier it was an April and May phenomenon. We now see hotels ubiquitously coming up in areas like Jawahar Nagar and Rajbagh which did not witness a huge footfall of tourists earlier. These places provided lodging mainly to Darbar move employees in the summer months. Now, even hotels in Rajbagh, Baghat, and Jawahar Nagar are witnessing advance booking.
This revolutionary change was indeed spearheaded by none other than esteemed Lieutenant Governor of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Manoj Sinha. Manoj Sinha is seen synonymous with development and progress. The look in Lal Chowk during late evening hours is emblematic of the fact that Kashmir has long since changed for good.
As Kashmiris, we must be thankful to Manoj Sinha for spawning this phase of development. We are indeed lucky that he was the effective administrative head of the union territory at the most critical time. Today’s photograph of him showing his indelible mark is emblematic of a man who has accomplished his goal in life.
