“After the historic decision of August 5, 2019 by honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A, people of Jammu and Kashmir since have been experiencing freedom from violence and destruction and for the first time heaving a sigh of relief,” stated honourable Lt Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha Sunday in an exclusive interview with DD News.
LG Manoj Sinha said there have been three milestones which the Union Territory has achieved. First, the street violence has stopped, second bandh calls for the past four years have disappeared, and their big achievement has been the common people of the UT for the first living according to his/her will and in a free atmosphere.
“Other than the normality on the ground, landmark development in the shape of News Medical colleges, IITs, IIMs and other revolutionary initiatives in the education sector has taken place,” he stated.
The Lt. Governor stated that transparency and people-oriented governance were at the core of their efforts, winning the trust of the people.
“The other positive change which is very heartening is the common man’s response towards the government’s initiatives. People by and large are appreciating the transparency in the system and people-friendly acts like coming down heavily on corruption and land grabbing has changed the perspective of people,” LG said.
LG Sinha said that Jammu and Kashmir has become a hotspot of tourism and prosperity.
“The record number of tourists after three decades-long death and destruction gave a new lease of life to the sagging economy and the living standard of people in general and tourist-related businessmen in particular,” claimed LG.
On dynasty politics and corruption, LG Sinha said that the administration has set parameters for transparency and performance. “J&K is No. 1 at UT level on E-Governance. We have put over 450 services online,” he said, adding that when I resumed office there were 9229 projects done but today we have completed 92600 projects which means there is 10 times more improvement on the developmental front”.
He said as the performance of the government is satisfactory response and co-operation from the people is equally heartening and satisfactory.
