Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and ex-Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were on Tuesday sentenced to 10 years in jail in the cipher case, reported Pak media.
As per Geo News, the decision was announced verbally by special court judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. This jail term also comes a week before the Pakistan General Elections 2024, which are scheduled for February 8.
The cricketer-turned-politician had earlier termed the trial as nothing less than a “joke”, saying “The prosecution team and defence counsels both belong to the government.”
Khan was ousted from the Prime Minister’s post in April 2022 through a vote of no-confidence. More than 150 cases have been registered against him since his ouster from power.
