Institutions play a key role in any democracy. There are powerhouses of economic and social upliftment. Institutions can shape the destiny of a nation within a few decades. Institutions, be it core educational ones or core technology research ones, play a critical role in taking a country out of the shackles of poverty. The economic superpowers like USA, UK, France, Germany, and China have strong educational and tech institutions which produce the talent that can keep pace with the growing socio-economic aspirations of those countries. Strong, independent institutions always entail a speedy race towards social and economic development.
India is blessed with IITs, NITs, and IIMs which produce top-notch talent in the country. This talent is then absorbed by the thriving industry in the country. However, a bitter fact is that a good majority of this top-notch talent still to this day prefers the UK, France, Germany, and USA as compared to working in their own country. This status has to change and change early. India cannot afford to be a training ground for the top talent which will eventually go to US to utilise that talent.
Coming to Kashmir we need tech institutions like oxygen. The NIT and the University of Kashmir are the two only institutes of excellence in as far as disseminating core education and technology courses is concerned. However, the modern challenges of the tech job market entails that institutes of excellence that cater to those tech demands be built in Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible. The population of Kashmir valley is increasing day by day and one cannot fathom the fact that for such a huge population we still have only two institutes of excellence.
Kashmir needs tech institutions where IT, AI, digital marketing, coding, and big data is taught. These institutions then need to have a tie-up with recruiters in Gulf, Europe, and USA so that the talent from these institutions be absorbed at good packages in these countries.
This is our way of becoming a strong contributor to India’s GDP. We are a landlocked place and so deep north that transport of both raw materials and the finished product is not cost-effective. Our human resources is the strongest feature of our economy. We need to utilise it well by creating institutions of excellence.
