Srinagar: After heckling of a doctor by Police personnel yesterday, today a senior journalist / owner of english daily newspaper was humiliated, assaulted by police near Baba Dawood e Khaki bridge Munawarabad, Srinagar.
Coming back from Press Enclave office to home, Javed Shah senior journalist/ Owner daily Good Morning Kashmir newspaper was stopped near Petrol Pump of Munawarabad by Khanyar police station party led by SHO Khanyar. He was asked by policemen to go back despite showing eligible card and identity. While the other vehicles were plying normally, journalist was asked to hand over his mobile phone and his vehicle was taken away by cops. He was humiliated for telling them he represented press. Infuriated cops then took his phone and deleted photos in the phone.
Police party according to the editor were deriving sadistic pleasure and other policemen hurling abuses at him.
SSP Srinagar, Haseeb Mughal when contacted, said that he has directed SP North to investigate the matter.
“If their will be any misconduct from police, we will take necessary action,” he said.
