Kashmir crossed another landmark. This time the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has 182 cases in a single day. The list contains round about 108 cases from Kashmir including about five doctors. Are we at the edge of community spread or do we still have a narrow glimmer of hope?
There are genuine, well-found fears among general populace whether things have gone beyond the point of no return.
Kashmir has a strong community which works in various Indian metropolitan cities besides thousands others who work in Gilf, Europe, Asia-Pacific and USA. Currently the government is trying its level best to bring stranded students and traders back from Bengaluru, Mumbai and Goa through special ‘Shramik” trains. However, for the ones being brought in from Punjab and other northern states are being halted in at a crowded dormitory on the borders of Jammu. It is here that the rate of catching infection is quite high in the populace.
Besides, there are reports that in every quarantine center there are no proper measures to check temperature of evacuated people thus not many come to know how many are infected and how many are not?
Jammu & Kashmir has been increasingly proactive in getting stranded students and tradesmen back to their hometowns. On the scale of humanitarian gesture it is a good move. However, with the sudden jump in cases fingers are being pointed out at these quarantine centers as well.
Only time will tell whether the decision to bring stranded students and tradesmen back to their hometowns in Jammu & Kashmir was a justifiable move or not. For the time being government needs to control the number of positive cases. All that needs to be done must be done. And must be done soon.
