A 27-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in central Kashmir district of Budgam on Thursday.

Official sources said that panic gripped Mir Mohalla in Budgam when the body of a youth (name withheld) was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room in the morning. His family immediately informed the police which took the body for post-mortem.

They said it was not immediately clear why his took this extreme step, adding that police has registered a case and initiated investigation to ascertain the circumstance which forced him to end life.
After completing all the legal and medical formalities, the body would be handed over to his relatives for last rites.
