Women in Journalism – A Triumph Over Time

Female journalism is touching new heights in the valley. Even though journalism was strictly a man’s occupation at first, some women battled the rough world of journalism. Journalism was said to be a “man’s job” due to the fact that the people in the late 1800s and early 1900s thought that it would be too dangerous a job for a female. In the past females were restrained from joining the field due to fear of society. Many girls struggled to join the media but that only remained a dream for some women. Luckily, times have changed now as women are excelling in this field. More and more female journalists are moving into media as reporters, as well as editors. The female reporters are interviewing women which is a bonus point for them. There are pregnancy issues, mensuration, divorce, dowry, and domestic violence which women hesitate to talk about to men reporters. These women are comfortable sharing incidents and stories only with female reporters which is a plus point for ladies. Female media persons are really talented and sprouting with every new day. They are getting appreciation from the people. This has built confidence in the life of women. Girls and women had weak financial conditions as they had no job opportunities in the past. Their condition is changing and they are no longer burden to their families. Women reporters in the valley work hard by running into the field for interviews. Despite many health problems they continue to help the weaker sections of society by spreading messages through media. Though they face a lot of problems while reporting they don’t give up on their hard work. Women journalists in Jammu and Kashmir are receiving awards and appreciation for excellence in the media field. There are some people who are biased and degrade women working in media. Sometimes bad remarks are passed on their work but still, she doesn’t lose hope. After receiving education for years she has the right to work in every field with modesty and courage. The female journalists have set examples for the other girls in the valley who wish to try their luck in journalism. Female reporters don’t have so many facilities but they try to be happy with their work. The administration must support the female folk in media and provide basic needs so that they can with carry on with the good work. This young cadre must be respected in every nook and corner of the valley so that they feel safe. This will strengthen their belief in equality.
