The epitome of spirituality and the ultimate pilgrimage for salvation, the Amarnath pilgrimage started Friday. The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar was the first to welcome the pilgrims with flower bouquets. These pilgrims are the greatest brand ambassadors of Kashmir and they can carry with them stories of Kashmiri hospitality to the remotest corners of India. Braving weather vagaries, difficult terrain, and their own old age problems the steadfast pilgrims undertake this pilgrimage for the betterment of entire humanity.
The administration needs to keep everything in order to ensure that pilgrims have a great time in Kashmir. It is the most important journey of their lives and the administration must ensure that no pilgrim is overcharged, the quality of food served to them maintains the highest degree of hygiene and they are properly guided towards where they can answer the call of nature, properly mark lavatories on the way so that they do not face problems. Given the tough weather conditions, the government must ensure that enough communication is sent out about carrying proper warm clothes for the journey, following weather warnings on all mediums of communications, and ensuring no stampede near the cave.
The government must ensure that hourly real-time weather advisories are issued on media including the social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The pilgrims need to know all along the way what the next hour holds for them so that they are prepared in advance. The government must ensure that smooth arrangements on the route to Yatra are provided, that there is adequate stock of oxygen cylinders, and deployment of ambulances and helicopters for any medical emergency. Also, the track needs to be monitored along with the physical abilities of ponies. The government must have its eye on the lodging facilities, electricity, water, communication, health, fire, and emergency services and have enough stocks as a backup.
We are hopeful that our security forces would be able to provide adequate security along the route. May this Amarnath yatra bring peace and prosperity to the valley as well as the Jammu region. We are hopeful that with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha as head of the administration pilgrims will enjoy their stay in Kashmir.
