Scores of residents from Wahigund, Kanihama, Tantraypora, and adjacent villages of Tangmarg area, Tuesday expressed resentment against Roads and Buildings department for failing to macadamize 2-kilometer Wahigund-Khaipora road over the last 10 years.
The aggrieved residents said that the road reflects a look of a ‘riverbank’ during rains.
“To reach Khaipora from our village would hardly take 10 minutes via this link road but now it takes more than that to reach the destination,” said Sameer Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Tantraypora.
In the past, the villagers had approached the civil administration demanding macadamization of the road but despite assurances, no work was done, alleged locals.
“This was the road built decades ago, and since then it is a victim of official neglect,” said Aijaz Ahmad dar, another local resident of the village.
The residents alleged that other villages of this area are well covered with tar coal but this link road from Wahigund to Khaipora has been left without macadamization.
“We want to know what has stopped the administration from upgrading the road for years. The government makes tall claims of progress but there is nothing on the ground of this road.
The residents appealed to Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha led administration and Chief Engineer R&B to look into the issue, so that problem will be resolved as soon as possible.
