The dilapidated condition of Bijbehara-Sirham road in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district is giving a tough time to commuters.

As per the locals, the work on the road was started two years back by the PMGSY department. However, the road condition soon after its macadamization started deteriorating.

“The road condition is so bad that people have stopped to travel on the road,” said Tariq Ahmad, a local resident. “The administration should make the contractor accountable for the poor work he has done,” he added.

Locals said that the road is a very vital link and connects dozens of villages with the district headquarters.

“We have been informing the higher ups and they have been assuring us that the road will be macadamized but their promises prove hoax all the time,” they alleged.

“The road has become accident-prone due to its bad condition but no heed is being given to the suffering of people,” said Aqib Ahmad, another local resident of Kandipora.

The residents appealed the administration to come to their rescue by addressing their problem and providing them better road connectivity in the area at the earliest.
