People of several areas in the summer capital are facing immense hardships due to unscheduled power cuts.
Residents of Nawakadal, Nowshehra, and other parts of Downtown said that they have to bear with long power cuts during the day.
“The supply mostly remains affected during the day. This has been now a norm for past one month now,” said Parvaiz Sofi, a local resident.
The residents of the area urged the concerned officials to ensure adequate electricity so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
A resident of Nawa Kadal told Good Morning Kashmir that the pesky power cuts have irked them since the winters here. “We were hopeful that the schedule will be changed this year, but unfortunately, we are being deprived of basic facility,” he said.
Residents of Lal Bazar have similar complaints. “This year, the situation of power supply i unsatisfactory,” they said.
“There has been hardly a day when we have had electricity at the time of morning or evening. We have never faced such a situation before,” Danish Sofi, a resident of Nawa Kadal, said.
Mohd Shafi, a resident of the old city said that “every winter, the power department is claiming load shedding as the reason for power cuts and every winter we are facing the same issues.”
He said the situation has not improved “despite the tall claims by the Power Development Department.”
Complaints of unscheduled power cuts were received from various Downtown areas including Bagh-Ali-Mardan, Almagari Bazar and Hawal, Bemina, Habba Kadal, Dargah Hazratbal and its adjacent areas.
Meanwhile, the residents urged authorities to intervene in the matter as soon as possible.
