Unscheduled power cuts in Ramzan particularly during Sehri and Iftar have caused a lot of inconvenience to the people across Kashmir.

Since the onset of holy month Ramzan, Kashmir has been witnessing unusual power cuts. People took to social media to express their anger against the government who claimed to provide round the clock supply in Ramadan.

“This is the first time that we are facing such electricity crises during the holy month Ramadhan. In previous years during Ramadan, we had received electricity but this year we are facing a lot of problems,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Lal Bazar.

Reports are coming from different parts of Kashmir valley as there are unscheduled power cuts in Sehri and iftar timing which is the cause of concern. People in south Kashmir are also up arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) as they face power crises frequently.

Inhabitants of Dabruna, Gund, and Uttersoo areas said that the power cuts had become more frequent since last five days, especially at Sehri and Iftaar timings.

“Even in Ramadhan, we are being forced to have our meals under candlelight,” said Mohd Shafi, a resident of Gund.

He said that the authorities should ensure an uninterrupted power supply during Sehri and Iftaar. In Baramulla villages, the residents voiced similar views saying that electricity was being snapped during Sehri and Iftaar time.

“Despite government’s assurance of continuous power supply during the holy month of Ramadhan, we are being deprived of the basic facility. The frequent power cuts especially during Sehri and Iftaar has caused hardships to the residents,” said Maroof Ahmad, a resident of Kreeri area. “We appeal the authorities and officials in PDD to provide adequate electricity at least during the holy month of Ramadhan.”
