We are talking of the nation builders. Nation builders who build our homes, institutions, factories, workplaces, shops and other establishments. We are talking about labourers, carpenters, electricians and mechanics. Yes, we are talking about the unorganized sector. There is hardly any policy in store , nor was there any policy for these poor souls in the days of yore. We ignored them just the way we ignored the lepers of the city. There is still no affirmative help, counsel or financial assistance coming to the next of kith or kin of masons or carpenters who list their life or limb after falling from the scaffoldings. Due to a lack of proper information and counsel most of the masons and carpenters do not get themselves insured through various schemes-some of them dished out by the union government.

The current establishment needs to push in NGOs to spread the message to the workers in the unorganized sector. Each and every labourer and carpenters need to get proper insurance cover depending on the risky nature of their work place. Most of these people are perched on scaffoldings at dizzying heights making them vulnerable to falling down with dangerous consequences. The private electricians also are susceptible to a lot of dangers as they work in dangerous circumstances. The government must treat them at par with government employees. These are the people who are building our nation in every practical sense. Once they are old enough not to work again the state discards them like anything. They are forgotten and treated as unwanted beings in the society. As a society we must chalk out a strategy to help these people in their bad times. A Society can progress only when there is equitable, justifiable and more importantly equal treatment to all workforce.
