Life is very fast nowadays. Most people in the valley drive but when it comes to traffic rules, they are not followed properly. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are completely dependent on road transport. Our valley is not like other metropolitan states/UTs where people enjoy door-to-door transport facilities. Unfortunately, metro train service has not been introduced yet which is the only reason the public has to rely on buses/autorickshaws to move to their destinations. If not the metro train but at least the road transport must work efficiently so that people enjoy traveling and reach on time. As the winter season is over, a huge rush of vehicles is seen moving within the city. As per reports traffic jams are constant in many areas of Srinagar city like Nowhatta, Hazratbal, Saida Kadal, Khanyar, Boulevard, Badamwari, Lal Chowk, M A Road, Residency Road, Khayam, Munwarabad, Dalgate, Saida Kadal, etc creates huge problems for the vehicle runners in the morning and evening hours. Commuters are stuck in traffic jams for hours longing for their destinations. The office goers especially the government employees can’t reach the office on time because of the continuous traffic jam. Not only this but schoolchildren are not able to report at time. This further impacts their studying time. The vehicle runners move on the wrong sides which blocks the road for hours. Traffic jams increase stress levels in people. People complain of severe headaches and tiredness while waiting for traffic to release. Critical patients especially pregnant ladies can’t reach the hospital on time. We can’t always blame the authorities for the mismanagement of traffic but the truth is that the public is responsible for this kind of continuous jams. The traffic police has to be vigilant and manage the traffic efficiently. There can be huge economic losses due to persistent traffic jams in the city. People who reach late can miss the most important assignments in life. Moreover, it wastes a lot of fuel leading to financial wastage. We request the LG administration to direct the concerned authorities to be vigilant and manage the traffic efficiently. A fine must be imposed on people who try to violate laws. To improve traffic movement both the public and traffic police must cooperate with each other to help the people to overcome this issue.
