In the times of today, the reality of life has been taken over by casual reels. Every youngster seems to be busy making reel after reel depicting the casual things about life like eating, sleeping, walking, and going out on a walk. Amidst all this, the get-togethers and interaction among the new generation is coming close to zero. The youngsters hardly know their relatives, friends, and teachers. Life has become very casual and a majority of youth come across as online hippies ready to embrace the temporary ‘now and here joy’ instead of slogging hard for a bigger purpose in life. The youth want to commercialize their YouTube channels and Instagram accounts to earn quick money. The long-term single-minded focus towards a particular thing does not appear to be there – just a mad rush to become rich without actually working hard towards it.
Just a few decades back the children of our muhallas and villages got together and played a bunch of games to keep their bodies in a healthy state. These games also helped them develop a community feeling and camaraderie towards each other. These games triggered a series of happy hormones which helped them tide over the stress of school homework and the daily grind of life. Times have really changed. The kids these days prefer casual digital get-togethers jumping at the prospect of making their private lives public to the whole world.
The risks of children making their lives public at such a young age are aplenty. These videos could be used by trouble mongers through AI for certain ulterior motives. There are other dangers to living digitally in a bubble – the prominent one being that it can burst anytime.
As parents, we must discourage our children from using too much social media and encourage them to play traditional games and real sports where there is genuine interaction and a common purpose. We must make real life so interesting for them so that they are not forced to look for any second or third derivative version of joy on social media. Let us change things and let us change them now.
