Without any doubt, teaching is one of the greatest professions in this world. Skillful and sensible teaching we believe creates and directs a great society by inspiring every learner with the proper enthusiasm. That is why we say that teachers are our nation builders. Great teachers know the marvelous skill of building great foundations for a nation not only for its mere survival but for its progress and development.
Model teaching leads to all-round development in society. It is a blessing that benefits and gifts all of those who get connected to it. First of all, teaching provides a huge benefit to the teacher himself. It allows the teacher himself to remain connected with the learning always. Man can hardly eschew learning till he lives a proper and fruitful life in this world. There are some thirsts that are impossible to be quenched in this world. I think learning is one of the finest examples of such thirst. Teaching gives us the opportunity to keep our thirst satisfied. I think teaching means lifelong learning. We learn so that we can teach better and this is thus a profession which is benefits all it’s stakeholders.
However, there are many teachers even nowadays who feel that they can teach without learning themselves. I think a person who teaches without learning himself properly and sufficiently is not a teacher but a teacher. There is a famous story about a teacher who refused to teach one day because he thought he had not prepared himself properly before the scheduled lesson was taught by him. This story must inspire all of us and we must bear in our mind that teaching demands careful and skillful lesson planning to bring out great results.
Some teachers think that teaching is a pious profession by itself and there are very rare chances of corruption in this profession. No doubt, teaching is a pious and great profession but if a teacher shows laziness while performing his duties, it would corrupt the whole profession worst than any other one. A teacher who fails to capitalize his or her full capacity as per the demand, to bring the desired results is the culprit for committing the worst form of corruption.
We believe that teaching is the “Prophetic Profession.” It suggests that like the great and pious Prophets, a teacher must never shy away from his task. The great prophets never rested and kept working hard till their last breaths in this world. They never retired and never gave up. We must understand that our inspirations are those great and divinely gifted souls who always taught without any vested interests. Some of them even sacrificed their lives for their cause. Following their great footprints, our goal must be to reach the ideals put forth by these grand and divinely guided souls, to make our teaching and learning the real blessing for the whole world.
