Since, the administration curtailed ration supply to five kgs per person for APL ration card holders. The prices of different varieties of rice have risen to all time high. It has taken a heavy toll on common Kashmiri. Previously, every essential commodity was subsidised and it would compensate much of the burden from lower income class citizens. As it is an open secret that people of the valley have lesser options in order to earn their daily life compared to the rest of the country. Firstly, six months of winter is almost going to hibernate with minimum opportunities to earn, and simultaneously fighting with chilling cold means extra spending. To make the life of the common man even more difficult has been the installation of smart meters. No doubt the initiative has been long due to phenomenal losses but the execution came suddenly and caught the people unaware. The welcome announcement by honorable LG of extra ten kg rice to deserving families should have come to every family. People are positively expectant that Shri Manoj Sinha will in the interest of his people extend it to every household. But the CAPD department also must ensure there is no discrepancy or malafide action while distributing the ration. There have been some misdeeds by some fair-price shop owners in downtown areas where they have been seen distributing only three kgs of rice to consumers. Director CAPD however ensured that no such act will be allowed where common citizens have to suffer.
