The sudden increase in crime rate in Kashmir Valley has sent shivers down the spine. For over a month now, heinous crimes on a daily basis have unsettled normal life and the very social fabric is under tremendous strain. Crimes like stabbing, murders, and gang fights were unheard of till recently. But a sudden spurt of violence indicates all is not well with the parent-child relation. The reasons are many but unemployment, late marriages, overuse of the internet and emotional hazards are the problems to be addressed. While the parenting here has degraded resulting in children going haywire. But the balancing act which has been the fulcrum in order to restore sanity ie religious heads and teachings have also chosen to remain spectators and continue with their infighting trying to overpower their counterparts on social platforms. Law enforcement agencies like police remain the only option to restore order but the situation has become very serious and out of control. Administration as well as the general public like mohalla committees have to come out of slumber and act fast to control the ever-deteriorating situation. Parents need to educate their wards about the issues which are considered as taboo still in our society. They say the home for a kid is the first institution where he or she adopts the lifestyle which helps them to harness their personality. Culture and fast life has changed the traditional honest approach. Mother’s lap has been taken over by creches and lack of love and care of grandparents is missing and with it is confidence which is nowhere now.
