Winter can bring a lot of suffering to many poor families. Poor housing and lack of warm clothing could make it harder for them to live through the season, but when it comes to Kashmir, a wave of warmth is always spreading across with people donating winter clothing to the needy.
A wall along the Jhelum banks here in City, was two years ago turned into a “Wall of Kindness”, where people can hang their warm clothes for those in need. Labourers, the homeless, orphaned kids or anyone who cannot afford warm clothes to fight the winter chill can take these clothes without asking for them.
The initiative caught the eye of media in year 2018, later on nobody filed a single story on this good effort. Kashmir needs more “Wall of Kindness” like initiatives and needs more publicity so that people will come forward. The effort in city is definitely praise worthy as people have been flocking the spot in their honest attempt to share and donate whatever extra that might have, but at the same time we need to encourage young brigade to take this mission forward in other districts and towns.
The “wall of kindness” on which people donate unwanted clothing here in City, are picked up by impoverished and needy people who have no source of income. The concept has not only brought happiness among poor people, but also to the homeless people living on streets.

This initiative was first started year 2015 in Iran, Iran was then facing an economic crisis, and the same worsened with several negative consequences with many even unable to buy clothing for themselves, that an idea to honorably donate cloths for those who might not be in a position to buy and the simplicity of idea was not just applicable but inspiring as well. Donors would hand extra cloths on a wall and those who were in need would silently come and pick what they needed.
Next time, don’t use walls around your city or town to urinate and litter but make it come to good use and help the poor and needy. And if possible install few hooks and hangers on walls of your towns or districts, maybe those who are in need will take, and those who don’t need, will leave some warmth for people in need.
