Like a lot of things in Kashmir the sports infrastructure also is way past its prime. The lack of accountability in the 90s of the last century took a heavy toll on the core infrastructure of a lot of departments, the sports infrastructure been of them.
While we have produced individual talents, child prodigies, great team performances but all this happened due to the sheer determination of the individuals or group of individuals despite all odds. Day in and day out we hear of glories achieved in martial arts by individual performers from Kashmir.
The sports infrastructure, however, was always nothing much to write home about. The only cricket stadium is often used for rallies. Many sports grounds have been encroached upon. The current establishment is serious about developing sports infrastructure, and it should be.

There are a lot of youth who want to excel in sports. They have the requisite sports acumen and stamina. The only thing they lack is proper guidance and upto mark infrastructure. Both are missing at present.
Not only government, but locals should also support their endeavors by going to games, attending performances, participating in fundraisers, generally by being present.
There is a lot of science that supports community connection as a benefit for young people. Regardless of whether you have children, it is important to show your support. Being celebrated in athletics and extracurricular activities are just some of the ways good behavior is reinforced for young people.
Sports and music, theater, debate, robotics, etc. – help teach students skills that will contribute to their future success.
Let’s support them along the way, across the region. As another academic year begins, let’s be sure to show up as a community to support young people and encourage their development.
Sports – and other extracurricular activities – will shape them for a lifetime
