Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather and Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Sat Sharma are among the several political figures who have vacated their government accommodations, as stated in a compliance report submitted by the Estates Department to the High Court.
The report also revealed that an eviction order was issued to Sharma, along with a notice demanding penal rent of Rs 73,470. Abdul Rahim Rater has been issued a notice for penal rent amounting to Rs 28,211. The premises he occupied have since been sealed.
The compliance report, presented before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice MA Chowdhary, further states that former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta has also relinquished his allotted premises.
The report disclosed that eviction proceedings have been initiated against former MLCs Zaffar Iqbal Manhas and Surinder Ambardar. Senior Congress leader SS Channi has vacated his government accommodation, receiving a notice for penal rent of Rs 14,690. Former legislator Mohammed Abbas Wani has similarly vacated his premises and been issued a notice for Rs 19,586 in penal rent.
Additionally, the Estates Department stated that ex-MLC Vibodh Gupta has vacated his accommodation, with a notice issued for penal rent amounting to Rs 13,993.
This compliance report follows a High Court directive seeking updates on the status of government accommodations occupied by political figures, including Kavinder Gupta, Sat Sharma, Surinder Ambardar, and Zaffar Iqbal Manhas. (KNT)
