In a powerful display of unity and defiance against violence, candlelight marches were held across Kashmir on Monday calling for stop to ”bloodshed”.
The marches were organized to denounce the tragic terrorist attack in Gagangeer area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday evening.
A significant number of members from civil society gathered at prominent locations in Pulwama, carrying banners and candles as a symbol of their collective anguish and protest.
Chanting slogans such as “From Pulwama to Ganderbal, we stand together against terror!”, “The fight for justice vegins with condemning terrorism,” “Kashmir stands with the victims”, the event resonated with anger and determination, reinforcing the message that the people of Kashmir refuse to be victimized by the atrocities committed by those who seek to instill fear and disrupt their lives.
In south Kashmir’s Pulwama, the atmosphere was filled with somber determination as the participants expressed their grief and outrage over the senseless loss of life.
Mudasir Dar, a noted Social Activist and the organizer of the event in Pulwama said, “We gather here not just to honor the victims, but to send a loud and clear message to terrorists “Your days of spreading fear and violence are over.” We, the people of Pulwama, are united against your barbaric actions and will no longer tolerate your attempts to divide us. You are traitors to our land, and your cowardice will not prevail.”

The event saw an overwhelming turnout of community members, including youth, women, and local leaders, who united to express their outrage and sorrow over the brutal act of violence. Protesters carried placards with stark messages such as “Terrorism is a Coward’s Game,” “Pulwama Stands Against Terror,” and “We Demand Justice” highlighting their collective rejection of violence.
The candlelight march in Pulwama served as a platform for local citizens to voice their demands for justice and stern action against the perpetrators. The protesters firmly insisted that those responsible for this unforgivable crime be dealt with with an iron fist.
Their call for justice echoed not only for their own community but also for the values of humanity at large.
With banners held high and candles illuminating the night, the marchers united in their unwavering resolve to stand against terrorism and uphold the principles of peace and harmony. Similarly, a candlelight march was taken out at Shopian to condemn the recent brutal killings in Ganderbal and Shopian, where innocent civilians lost their lives.
The march, led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar, saw participation from district officers, officials of various departments, students, civil society members, activists, and the general public.
The march commenced from the Mini Secretariat with participants holding candles and raising slogans against the senseless violence.
The collective voice of the community resonated against the inhumane acts of terror, emphasizing the need for peace and harmony in the region.
Addressing the Media, the DC condemned the barbaric killings, describing them as an affront to humanity. He reassured the public that every possible measure is being taken to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Reports reaching said that marches took place in Srinagar, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipora, Anantnag, Kulgam, Kupwara, Ganderbal, and Shopian districts, with people from all walks of life participating in large numbers.
The marchers condemned the killings and expressed support for the bereaved families while denouncing the murder of innocent civilians.
According to eyewitness accounts, the marches saw significant participation, with attendees holding candles and shouting anti-Pakistani slogans.
