Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha recently flagged off a fleet of state-of-the-art e-buses equipped with modern navigation gadgetry, smart boarding, and much larger space providing citizens of Kashmir with a great commuting experience. This move has been received well by the general public and appreciated by all sections of society including school-going children, college goers, working women, general line commuters, and old-age residents. This is nothing short of a boon and also the environment is not affected – remember the environment of a place like Kashmir is the Unique Selling Point (USP). Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is trying his level best to see to it that the environment is not harmed by any of the developmental measures.
The Smart-e-buses equipped with state-of-the-art features like ultra-high-definition dash cam, stop push button, and smart boarding and deboarding facilities for the individuals with disabilities, are about to provide the people of Srinagar a whole new travel experience.
The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha this week unveiled a fleet of 75 electric buses in Srinagar, and another 25 buses would be added in the next few days. We hope and pray that sooner more and more buses would be added to the list and almost all districts of the valley will have this unique experience of traveling in such buses. The older buses used for commuting are overcrowded, awfully crammed, and maintain an irregular schedule. We hope this new fleet of buses maintains a regular steady flow and an unfailing schedule.
However, a few concerns remain. Prominent among them is the evening transport and the last-minute buses. There are not any. The government must make it mandatory for these buses to operate regular schedules at 7 pm, 7.30 pm, and 8 pm on routes leaving central Srinagar towards Chadoora, Ganderbal, Pampore, Pattan, and Budgam. These are the small unofficial townships in the periphery of Srinagar where many people live now and often suffer a lot due to the unavailability of transport in the evening hours. We would sincerely request the relevant authorities to see to it that an evening schedule is adhered to without fail by these bus operators.
We would once again like to thank Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for this step and hope that with the passage of time many more buses are added to the fleet. A great success story indeed.
