There is no choice. To ensure students do not miss out on a complete academic year, we will have to endure the prospect of skipping vacations this year. It would be hard but are we left with an alternative? If we do not do this, what else is there to be done?

This session is all but lost. The online classes are just pedestrian. More than half of the student still do not have access to either a mobile phone or a reasonably good internet connection. The Covid-19 peak is most likely to last another two months. So we have at best September, October and November available to us. Can we complete a full academic year’s syllabus in these three months?
We simply can not. The way out is to skip summer, winter vacations this year. The health experts have a valid point to say that the intense cold can be bad for the health of students of primary classes. But for students above the age group of ten years and older we must continue schooling in winters also.
We must provide for viable arrangements for classrooms and the preparation for it has to begin from today. Right from today, not tommorow. A financial estimate should be made and a proposal sent to centre for Grant. We can deduct salaries of state employees also. After all they are the only ones who had a recurring income for all these months of epidemic. They should not object to a mild deduction in salary to arrange for arrangement in schools where possibly their own children may be studying.
These are hard times and hard times demand we take tough, unprecedented initiatives. Skipping vacations is one such initiative. Not taking would be costly many times over than taking it. Let us take it.
