Shopkeeper dies after allegedly consuming poisonous substance in north Kashmir

A shopkeeper passed away on Monday in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance, officials said.

The victim has been identified as Mehboob Hussain Langoo, son of Shamas-ud-Din Langoo and a resident of Iqbal Nagar, Sopore. He was employed at Shams Pan House located in the town’s Main Chowk area.

According to reports, Langoo consumed a toxic substance under unclear circumstances. His health suddenly worsened, and he was rushed to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Sopore for medical care. Despite the efforts of doctors and staff, he succumbed to the effects at the hospital, officials added.

The incident has plunged his family, relatives, and local residents into mourning, with many expressing shock over his unexpected death.

Police have registered the matter and launched proceedings to determine the exact circumstances leading to the death. Further investigation is ongoing.
