Shab-e-Qadr: Night of Power and Forgiveness

Ramadhan brings peace and prosperity around the world. Fasting helps wash away sins and brings the devotees closer to Allah. Shab-e-Qader known as the”night of power” is observed in the blessed month of Ramadhan every year. Laylat-al -Qadar is a night better than a thousand months. The night is special as the religious book of Muslims the holy Quran was sent down to the earth and was revealed to the prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The night could fall on day 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th of the holy month in Ramadhan. People in the valley celebrate the night fervently. They make preparations during the day to observe the divine night. Muslims worship Allah and send a durood to Muhammad ((PBUH). Right from children to elderly people, everyone worships for the whole night. As soon as the adhaan is recited the Muslim men proceed to mosques for observing the Shab. The Muslim communities also distribute firni, sevaiyan, kehwa, and dates among the people on this night. Though women worship at home but some women go to Dargah Hazratbal, Khankai mohalla, Asaare Sharif Kailash pora, Chaar-e-sharif, etc to celebrate Laylat-ul- Qadar. It is a night when Muslims repent from sins and pray for a good life. They also pray for their neighbors, relatives, and friends. The blessed night of the year gives chance to do good deeds and quit evil. Mercy is bestowed on people.
There are so many blessings and rewards on this night. People in the valley pray for peace and prosperity. They praise and thank Allah on Laylat -ul-Qadar.
