The Drug Control Department in Pulwama has ramped up its monitoring efforts following an RTI inquiry filed by social activist, seeking details on the measures taken to combat drug abuse in the region.
According to the official response, the department has intensified its legal and administrative efforts to curb the sale of pharmaceutical drugs prone to misuse. Several key initiatives have been implemented, including, Strict Monitoring of Medical Establishments: All medical sales outlets in Pulwama are now under CCTV surveillance to prevent unauthorized sales of habit-forming drugs. Mandatory Software Installation: Pharmacies must install regulatory software to monitor drug transactions, and Computerized Billing System (CBS): A digital tracking mechanism has been introduced to monitor the supply and demand of prescription-based drugs, ensuring accountability.
Authorities have assured continued stringent action under relevant laws to tackle the growing drug crisis.
Jasib Shabir, a social activist and the driving force behind Team Rising Youth and Save Youth Save Future, has welcomed the department’s response but urged for more decisive action.
“While these steps are positive, stronger enforcement is needed. Surprise inspections, stricter punishments for violators, and grassroots awareness campaigns must be prioritized to protect our youth,” he stated.
Jasib stressed that community involvement and stringent regulations are crucial in eradicating the drug menace from Pulwama.
