The dilapidated roads in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district continue to take a toll on commuters. The commuters and pedestrians from various areas said that many roads are not properly maintained by the concerned authorities.

Residents of Bahrampora -Shouch said that the dilapidated road in their area is taking a toll on them. They said that the roads in their area are being neglected for a long time now.

Commuters said that the bad condition of roads has resulted in many problems including an increase in travel time, and water-logging. They said that the dilapidated roads make it hard for pedestrians to walk.

“The road in our area from Bahrampora-Shouch is dilapidated. It has been years that the condition of our roads is bad but authorities are taking no action in this regard. We are facing a huge inconvenience while traveling on the roads,“ said Faisal Ahmad, a local.

“As far as the other villages of this area are concerned, they were well covered with charcoal, but Bahrampora- Shouch-Palapora link road is still unmacadamized,” he said.

According to the locals, the upper surfaces of the road have eroded completely which makes it difficult for the drivers to drive safely.

The residents said that the damaged road creates inconvenience to locals and commuters there.

“It has been years since the road was last repaired. It is ironic that authorities have failed to undertake repairs of the road,” said Shabir Ahmad, a local resident.

They said, they approached the concerned department so many times and they assured us that they will macadamise our road, but days passed into months and now years have passed the condition of road is still in the same position.

The residents appealed to Deputy Commissioner (DC), Baramulla, Sehrish Asgar, and Chief Engineer R&B to look into the issue, so that problem will be resolved as soon as possible.
