ontinuing with its efforts to encourage people to use generic medicines, the J&K chapter of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Ayushadhi Pariyojna (PMBPY) Friday conducted a daylong seminar at B.ed College Srinagar.
The main purpose of this seminar was to raise awareness about generic medicines. The programme was attended by Div Com Kashmir P. K Pole, Principal B. Ed College Dr Ruhi Kant, Assistant Drug Controller Kashmir, Mohammad Younus, Dr. Naveed Nazir Shah, HoD Chest Medicine, GMC Srinagar, Retired Justice, Nazir Ahmad Fida, and Dr. S. Saleem, HoD Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar.
Rifat Nazir Nodal Officer for the J&K chapter of the PMBPY presented a brief welcome address and threw light on the various initiatives taken by the government across Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT). She thanked the Food Control Department for its support in establishing stores across the UT. ‘’PMBPY is helping people around the country to get quality medicines at very affordable rates,” she added.
She in her speech stated that these programmes aimed at disseminating basic information about the medicines to the general public.
P K Pole, Div Com Kashmir said, “the programme aims to spread awareness about generic medicines. Pole threw light upon the benefits of the scheme for the people of Kashmir and ensured that every help would be provided for providing benefits of the scheme to even the people of the remotest areas of the valley. Make affordable medicine accessible to all poor and the general public for a healthy nation.”

He said under Jan Aushadhi poor people are highly benefited by availing the medicine at lower prices. He said that the Divisional administration will help Jan Aushadhi Kashmir to open five centres at Red Cross, besides will extend all the necessary support to open such centres at PHCs and District Hospitals.
Dr Naveed Nazir, HOD Chest Medicine, GMC Srinagar also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the role of the J&K chapter of the scheme for awaring people.
“These medicines are of good quality and have good efficiency,” Dr. Nazir said. Adding that these stores should be opened everywhere in the UT.
S. Saleem Khan, who was also present during the programme said that doctors should encourage patients to use Jan Aushadhi drugs.
Different Jan Asushadhi Mitras (Pharmacist’s working at Jan Aushadhi Stores) were also felicitated in the function.
PMBJP Kendra owner and proprietor Nadia Rashid was felicitated for her spirit of social service as she has established a Kendra keeping in view the need of the people residing in the vicinity of her store at Kursoo Padshahi Bagh Srinagar.
Azhar Hajini who conducted the proceedings of the programme thanked all the stakeholders for making the seminar a great success. Hajini also informed the gathering that the Department of Health is trying its best to educate people in general and medicos in particular about the high efficacy of the Jan Aushadhi drugs.
