PM Modi to inaugurate projects, address rally during JK visit today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is arriving in Jammu & Kashmir today to address a massive rally and inaugurate development projects worth Rs 30500.

According to a press release issued from the Prime Minister’s office, Modi will inaugurate projects worth over Rs 30,500 crore during his visit, which include various sectors such as health, education, rail, road, aviation and petroleum. Notable among these projects is the inauguration of three Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), including one in Jammu.

The PM will lay the foundation stone for the new terminal building of Jammu Airport and a Common User Facility Petroleum depot in Jammu, among others. He will also distribute appointment orders to about 1500 new government recruits of Jammu & Kashmir besides interacting with beneficiaries of various government schemes as part of the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu’ programme.

The new terminal building at Jammu Airport, spread over an expansive area of 40,000 square metres, will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 865 crore and is designed to accommodate up to 2000 passengers during peak hours. Showcasing the local culture, the building will reflect the vibrant spirit of the region while boosting tourism, trade, air connectivity and economic growth, as per the press release.

Union Minister in Prime Minister’s Office, Dr Jitendra Singh on Monday visited the rally spot and reviewed arrangements at the Maulana Azad Stadium. He was accompanied by senior officials of the Government of India and a team of J&K UT administration led by Divisional Commissioner Jammu. Dr Singh said adequate arrangements about accommodation, provision of refreshments and sanitation facilities for the invitees have been made.

He informed that the projects, which the Prime Minister will inaugurate, have been executed by the four ministries of the Government of India – Education, Civil Aviation, Railways and Petroleum.

Meanwhile, stringent security measures have been implemented across Jammu in anticipation of PM Modi’s visit.

Police have declared Jammu district a no-fly zone (temporary Red Zone) for drones and quadcopters with effect from Monday 6 pm until Tuesday 11 pm while the vigil has been increased on borders and internal routes.

A security official said that the restrictions have been imposed on the operation of drones, remote-controlled micro-light aircraft, para-gliders, para-motors, hand gliders and hot air balloons within the (Jammu) district. Roads have been barricaded to prevent unauthorised parking, and thorough security checks are being conducted at various points, he said.

In light of the high-profile event, SSP Traffic Jammu issued a detailed advisory, outlining traffic diversions and parking arrangements. Approximately 4000 buses have been deployed to ferry participants to the rally venue to ensure smooth movement and minimal disruption to public services.

The Headquarters Central Pool Security, Jammu, in coordination with the SSP Security Jammu, has released a detailed list of prohibited items that attendees are advised not to carry to the venue. These include bags, tiffin boxes, cameras, weapons, ammunition, sharp-edged articles, cigarettes, lighters, umbrellas, objectionable flags, and electronic gadgets. Mobile phones are to be kept in silent mode throughout the event.

The participants have been instructed to park their vehicles in designated parking slots identified by the Civil Administration and Traffic Police. Entry to the venue is expected to commence before 9:30 am, and attendees have been urged to cooperate during security checks.

As per the advisory, it is mandatory for the visitors to carry valid identity proof such as an Aadhar card, Election card, or PAN card.

In a communique, the SSP Traffic Jammu has outlined traffic diversions and restrictions to facilitate the smooth movement of vehicles on the day of the rally.

Vehicles coming from Bikram Chowk towards Dogra Chowk will be diverted via Vivekananda Chowk and JP Chowk, while those approaching from Canal Head towards Dogra Chowk will be redirected through Jewel Chowk, St. Peter’s School, Bus Stand, K.C Crossing, Indira Chowk, and JP Chowk. Additionally, attendees are advised to use the Fourth Tawi Bridge or Gujjar Nagar Bridge for north-to-south and vice versa movement.

For any traffic-related assistance, the Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Jammu has provided contact numbers – 0191-2459048, 94191-47732 & 103 – for the convenience of the public.

President of the All J&K Transport Association, Vijay Singh Chib, confirmed the deployment of 4000 buses to ferry participants to the rally venue. He said that due to the shortage of buses, additional support has been sought from some transporters from Punjab.
