Srinagar: Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said that Young, educated & opinionated Kashmiris on Twitter have suddenly disappeared from the platform.
Iltija, who is using her mothers twitter handle, wrote; “Curious case of K twitter. Young, educated & opinionated Kashmiris on Twitter have suddenly disappeared from the platform. Apparently, most male users were summoned by the notorious Cyber Cell in Srinagar, forced to delete their accounts & sign ‘bonds’ promising ‘good behaviour.”

“Good behaviour in this context is ‘conforming to admin’s fake narrative of normalcy instead of throwing light on ground realities.’Women users got calls from employers & got an ultimatum to delete their accounts or lose their jobs.Surely a cowardly tactic to blackmail women.”

“With every passing day, the space to people of J&K to express their thoughts is shrinking. Thought policing will only backfire because you are pushing young people to the wall & punishing them even when they use words & harmless humour, memes etc to vent their feelings.”

She further said that, “Personally,I may not agree with a lot that is said on these handles but thats not the point. We all must have the freedom to voice our views instead of being told what to think.J&K admin & police ought to get over the compulsive need to monitor & mould what Kashmiris think & feel.”
