Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has strongly criticized the Indus Water Treaty, calling it the “most unfair document” for the people of the region. Speaking to the media at SKICC on Friday, he expressed his disapproval of the 1960 agreement between India and Pakistan, stating that the government of India has taken steps, but the people of Jammu and Kashmir have always opposed the treaty.
“We have never supported the Indus Water Treaty. We have always believed that it is unfair to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Omar said.
In addition, the Chief Minister addressed the safety concerns of J&K residents in other states, following recent attacks. He mentioned a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who assured him that the government would take all necessary steps to protect J&K residents living outside the state.
Omar also noted that an advisory would be issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, and that the Home Minister had personally spoken with Chief Ministers of various states to address the matter.
