The residents of Kripalpora Bala, Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are facing scarcity of potable water for the past 12 years.
The residents of Teli Mohalla, KP Bala said, that they are without potable drinking water for the past several years and they are forced to consume filthy water of the local nallah.
The long walk to the stream has become a daily necessity if villagers are to meet their daily chores and livelihood. The stream is their main source of water.
“We usually rely on Nallah for water, which is unfit for human consumption. But we have no choice but to utilize and survive on this water,” said Gh Mohammad Teli, a local resident.
Residents of the village said that women have to travel long distances to collect water. “The women of every household have this duty to arrange the water for their families and have to travel long distances to get it,” said Ab Ahad Teli.
However, the failure of the authorities to provide tap water supply has left us without drinking water.
The residents added that officials of the concerned department have almost forgotten that the area exists. They urged the Governor’s administration to direct the field staff to supply potable water to the locality.
The residents appealed to the concerned authorities to ensure proper and immediate water supply pipelined to the area so that the water woes faced by the people will be over.
