The Sub District Hospital (SDH) Tangmarg area of Baramulla district has been awaiting completion of its building for the last eight years while the locals are facing difficulties for want of inadequate health facilities in the area.
Though the work on the new building of SDG Tangmarg was started eight years back, however, the work on the building is still incomplete.
“Pregnant women who visit the hospital face immense inconveniences due to space constraints. Eight years ago, government started construction of an additional block for its gynecology section but it is yet to be completed,” said Jehangir Ahmad, a local resident.
Locals told Good Morning Kashmir that they had many times taken up the matter with the concerned authorities but unfortunately, the building has not been completed till date.
“Despite repeated requests, the authorities have failed to complete the construction work of the building meant for maternity services, which speaks volumes about the claims of improving the healthcare in rural areas,” said Ali Mohammad, another local resident of the area.
“We are facing serious problems due to non-completion of this project. In winter, it becomes even more difficult to ferry the patients to other places,” they said. Adding that the hospital caters to nearly 60 villages in the area.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Baramulla, Dr Bashir said that it’s a languishing project, and details can be collected from the secretariat. “I don’t have any information regarding this project. You can collect details from the secretariat,” he said.
As the situation continues to deteriorate, the plight of SDH Tangmarg highlights the urgent need for increased investment in healthcare infrastructure and the timely execution of promised projects.
The local residents hope that their voices will be heard, and the new hospital building will soon be made operational and cater to the medical needs of the area around the clock.
