Education sector in Jammu and Kashmir has remained in news for one or other reason. People, who have ruled Jammu and Kashmir in past made tall claims but on the ground they failed to deliver. There is a perception that the government run schools have been politicized during the past three decades and much attention has not been paid towards setting the basics rights. Even many schools across the UT run from rented buildings. There are no proper washrooms and other facilities. But the LG Sinha led administration should be appreciated for taking bold steps for giving much attention towards government schools from the last three year. In Kashmir, school education has been affected severely over the last few years. Be it a Covid lockdown or any other thing. The schools reopened briefly a few months ago only to be closed days later because of another Covid wave.
Even the government has employed an army of teachers in schools run by the Government and they get more wages than the teachers working in private schools and are well qualified than their counterparts but still students don’t come to the expectations. The question of hundreds of parents is why can’t government schools compete with private institutions? However, to salvage the academic session, schools in the valley took to various means, including online classes, to impart education to the students, but nothing much happened due to the slow speed. Assignments are not the only issue of complaint by the students or the parents. Many of them lamented and are still lamenting. Besides students, teachers are equally disappointed with such things. We hope the government will find an alternative, and reopen the schools as soon as possible so that students can read and write without any difficulty that too in this new session.
