The residents of Nai Basti, Dolipora area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla on Tuesday appealed to Power Development Department (PDD) for installation of an additional transformer in the area due to the current one being insufficient for meeting the surge.
A delegation of the residents comprising around 14 households told Good Morning Kashmir that while the overall input of power remains low during winters, the flow dips sharply, especially for the houses who are located at the tail end and far away from the current transformer.
“100KV transformer couldn’t suffice the load of more than 40 households. The electricity which we are receiving is of no use as we have been using candle lights during dinner time and even LED lamps are not working on it,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a local resident.
Mohd Shafi, another local resident of Nai Basti said that due to the increase in household electricity connections, the demand for electricity has also increased in the area.
“We have been running from pillar to post to get the transformer installed, however, our pleas are falling on deaf ears,” the residents said.
The residents said that government must provide another transformer to Nai Basti so the problem could be solved on an immediate basis.
Residents appealed District Administration, DDC Chairperson Safina Baig, and Chief Engineer PDD to intervene so that locals do not suffer more and more.
