New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the second tranche of the Centre’s economic rescue package of Rs 20 lakh crore will focus on migrant workers, street vendors, small traders, the self-employed and small farmers.
The government announces a free food scheme for migrant workers under which 8 crore workers will get free food grains for two months irrespective of whether they are ration card-holders. “The cost will be borne entirely by the Central government,” Sitharaman says.
She also said that, “We must remember that within hours of announcing the first phase of the lockdown, we had announced the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, for providing money and food to the poor.”
