In an unsettling incident, a couple was attacked by a masked man on Wednesday morning in Hazratbal, Srinagar, leaving the wife critically injured. The incident, which occurred at the residence of Ghulam Rasool Khan, has left the neighborhood concerned.
According to witnesses, the episode unfolded around 9 a.m. when Khan’s wife was in the kitchen. “I was resting when I heard my wife calling for help,” Khan shared. “I rushed to the kitchen and saw a masked individual in a struggle with her. When I intervened, I also sustained minor injuries.”
Khan explained that the individual, who appeared to be a non-local, carried a sharp object that caused injuries to his wife’s wrist and neck. She was wearing gold bangles, which some believe could be linked to the motive behind the incident.
Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, came to assist. One neighbor described the scene: “I heard calls for help and ran inside. The woman needed immediate attention, and I stayed to ensure everyone’s safety.”
Khan and his neighbors managed to detain the individual until the police arrived. The suspect is now in custody, and authorities are investigating his identity and intentions.
The injured woman was promptly taken to SKIMS hospital, where her condition is reported as stable but critical. This incident has sparked concerns among residents, who are urging for enhanced safety measures in the area.
This case follows similar concerns raised earlier this year in Budgam, where a couple experienced an intrusion at their home.
