On the last day of his service, Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain visited the Balidan Stambh (Martyrs’ Memorial) at Pratap Park, Lal Chowk, to pay tribute to the fallen heroes. He said that during his 30 years of service, he endeavored to ensure the people of Jammu and Kashmir live in an atmosphere free from fear and intimidation, and he believes he has not lost the opportunity to play his part.
“For a police officer, Balidan Stambh is no less than a place of worship. There are hundreds of fallen heroes who have sacrificed their lives for the cause. It is my duty to pay rich tribute to all the heroes on the last day of my service,” DGP Swain told reporters at Balidan Stambh.
When asked about the challenges he faced during his career, having served JK from SSP to DGP, the outgoing JK police chief expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of the region. “This opportunity does not come to everyone. For this, I am thankful to the Almighty, the government, and my colleagues,” he said.
The DGP stated that he tried to contribute to bringing lasting peace—peace with dignity—to J&K with sincerity, body, soul, and mind.
“I did try to see smiles on the faces of people and to remove fear. I am thankful to all the mothers, sisters, children, and elderly citizens for their support. My belief is that everyone in J&K should enjoy peace and live a life free from fear and intimidation. I think I have not lost the opportunity to ensure this,” the DGP said. DGP Swain will demit office this evening, and J&K will see Nalin Prabhat as its new police chief—(KNO).
