Lalbazar sans public transport

Notwithstanding, large population of Lalbazar, successive governments before 2019 intentionally or unintentionally ‘deliberately’ did nothing or very less development of the area.

The majority of the public residing in Lalbazar migrated mainly from downtown Srinagar localities and now is rightly called as extension of the old city. Experts opined that Lalbazar is unplanned and haphazardly developed. Particularly the roads are narrow and smooth plying of traffic is a rare sight.

As the area houses more than 4 lacs but the public transport system is almost non-existent. There are no buses or other modes of transportation available particularly during peak hours. Mainly it is upto the mood of public transport owners when to venture out on the roads.

Significantly, after 6 in the evening there are no buses or other public transport vehicles. Hapless passengers are seen walking and looking for any lift during the long winter evenings.

People from Lalbazar requested and lamented many times before authorities but to no avail till date. RTO Kashmir recently assured GMK that many e-buses will ply shortly on Lalbazar roads. But the promise seems a far fetched mirage like in the past.
