The road strech leading to Iqhwan Chowk from Khayam in Central Kashmir’s Srinagar is in dipilated condition for a long time, causing immense hardships for the commuters.
The resident of the area told Good Morning Kashmir that it has been years since the road was blacktopped. “A brief shower and the dozens of potholes turn into pools of water,” they said
“Our vehicles face severe damage on a daily basis. The road is dotted with deep and large potholes which makes the journey a back-breaking exercise,” said Adil Ahmad, a local resident.
Zubair Ahmad, another local resident of the area said that it’s unfortunate that works which should have been taken up by the concerned authorities from time to time are pending.
“Vehicles passing through this route face difficulties while travelling. Bad shape of the road leaves a bad impression. Even, during incessant rains the road gets washed off easily annoying the commuters. Children and elderly persons often fall in the water filled ditches which leads to injuries,” he said
Locals said that the potholes of this area have become accident-prone and no auto or cab is ready to ply into the area.
They said that the department has failed to macadamize the 2 km road for several years now.
“We approached the concerned department many a time, but nothing on the ground has been done to alleviate our problems,” they said, adding that they have been just pacified with hollow assurances.
”We appeal to authorities for macadamization of this road so that we don’t have to suffer in winter,” they said.
