The residents of Kalai Ander area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district, are facing contaminated water supply for the past many years due to which people are facing immense hardships.
“The water we receive from our taps is contaminated and comprises mud, if consumed the water can cause diseases,” a local resident Suhail Farooq told Good Morning Kashmir.
The situation can be alarming in winters as residents claimed that they have been complaining to concerned authorities for past many months but no action has been taken till date
“If we keep on drinking unsafe water, people can easily get infected which can further lead to waterborne disease. The Residents want to get water supply from the Rangil plant which is pure and clean,” they said.
“Currently, our water supply pipeline is from Phokhribal. The water is yellowish in colour and is polluted too much that we don’t feel like drinking it,” another local resident Imran Khan said. Adding that they have to filter the water first and then drink it.
The failure of the authorities to provide clean water supply has made people worried about their health, they said.
The residents have urged authorities to make the filtration plant properly functional or make an alternative arrangement for supplying drinking water to the area.
