There is an age-old maxim that the only thing permanent in this world is change. It applies to academic structure as well. However, in Kashmir it appears that the 21st century did not come to academic planners in Jammu & Kashmir. Our curriculum has not moved beyond the traditional medical, non-medical, Commerce and Arts. In modern age a man mostly studies to earn a job for himself. The fact is that every graduate and post-graduate cannot get a government job for there are too many of them. Besides, the fact that a lot many of our graduates and post-graduates are not employable is also a worrying thing.
When our educated young men go to greener pastures outside the state to work in the corporate offices they find themselves falling short on communication skills. It is here where our Schools, colleges and universities have to work on. Besides, the main curriculum the students should be taught how to face the interviews, how to write formal emails, how to make the corporate communication and how to equip themselves with the bare minimum of computer knowledge.

Besides, we could ourselves a great favor by starting institutions where the emerging fields in technology like Artificial Intelligence, Big data analysis and digital marketing are taught. We have increase the number of polytechnic colleges where effective use of technology is taught to students.
The rat race of having a Degree College in every village, town or borough is not doing us any good. We need more Job-oriented courses included in our existing colleges and Universities. We are just producing a huge army of post-graduates and bogus PHDs.
We need more Job-oriented courses and the people at helm have to understand this simple fact. Being in 21st century we cannot afford to have a curriculum of 20th century. We have to be innovative in our education courses and rise up to the need of the hour. Let us transform these clueless young graduates into an army of skilled employable youth.
