A delegation from the Jammu and Kashmir General Line Teachers Forum (JKGLTF) met Deputy Chief Minister, Jinab Surinder Choudhary, at his office in the Jammu Secretariat. The delegation began the meeting by congratulating the Deputy Chief Minister for the recent change in the academic session, which they believe will benefit students across the Union Territory.
Following the congratulatory remarks, the representatives handed over a detailed memorandum outlining their key demands. The demands included several critical issues affecting teachers and other education sector employees in Jammu and Kashmir. These demands were discussed point by point during the meeting.
Among the key demands were: Restoration of the old pension scheme, Promotions for teachers, from teacher to master, and for masters to lecturers, Release of a 3% dearness allowance for employees, which is due from July 2024, Release of two increments for employees appointed under the SRO 202, Provision of 2% and 1% House Rent Allowance (HRA) for employees serving in urban and rural areas, respectively, Filling of vacancies for headmasters and principals to prevent headless schools from being impacted, Confirmation of headmasters, ZEOs, lecturers, principals, and CEOs. Increasing the salaries of vocational teachers, Enhancement in the monthly honorarium for cook-cum-helpers, Creation of a Teacher Welfare Fund.
The Deputy Chief Minister listened attentively to the delegation and assured them that their concerns would be addressed on priority. The delegation expressed optimism following the positive response and looks forward to the resolution of these critical issues.
